St.Patrick's Cathedral Chennai

St. Patricks church is located at St. Thomas Mount. Located near the neighbourhood of Guindy and close to Chennai airport, St. Thomas Mount is associated with St. Thomas, the apostle of Christ, who is believed to have been martyred here. The mount is commonly called in Tamil "Parangi Malai". History says 2000 years ago, a saint 'Parangi' lived here ('parangi' in Tamil language is used to refer to a white person). Over time Anglo-Indians predominated in this area. A small relic-filled Church built in 1523 by the Portuguese stands at the summit of the 300 feet high St. Thomas Mount. The place was visited by Pope John Paul II during his visit to India on 5 February 1986. The Indian Army operates an Officer Training Academy (OTA) on the mount.

St.Patricks Church dose hold a history for it self. It is the prime church for all the Catholics who belong to the circumfurance of St. Thomas Mount, The Parish boasts a strength close to 5000 Famalies from all walks of life.Even the Anglo Indian Community has a sound percentage in this Parish. Almost for all major christain celebrations and services the predominant venue would be the historic St. Thomas Mount.
During the season of Lent the Tamil service , the "Way of the Cross " and the Palm Sunday Mass which will be hosted by the Bishop of Archdiocese Chennai happens at St. Thomas Mount every Year. The Old St. Patricks church was demolished in 1999 which paved way to the new one under the hands of various Parish Priests it was finally completed by Rev Father John Bosco and opened for parishners on january the 15th 2008
St. Patricks Church was Modeled and Constructed keeping in mind some of the key elements present at the St. Peters Basilica.
The Grotto was built to symbolise the one in Lourdes France.

The Creation of Adam
This is a fresco painted by Michelangelo 1511
Origanally appeared at the sestine chappel, At St. Patricks Church it appears at the entrance on the celing.
it illustrates the Biblical story from the Book Of Genisis in which
God the Father breathes life into Adam.
It was among the last to be completed by Michelangelo.
God is depicted as an elderely bearded man wrapped in swirling Cloak,
While Adam on the lower left is completely Naked.
The whole painting has a series of inner meaning to it, when one watches closely
the fingers do not touch infact its only god who is trying to reach man.
